El Patio

Prawn cocktail

The prawn from the tom yam soup.. with stapler bullet in it.

Not nice at all. We don't really have much choices to begin with, since there were only a few restaurants in this hotel. But then again just be very careful if you really want to go to this place. I was just very lucky to have spotted it before swallowing the entire stapler bullet.

May King Lum Mee

Lum mee with chicken & prawn. May King is famous for their lum mee. It tastes even better if you eat with the chilli (spicy and bit sourish). The brown sauce is a bit starchy, I suppose it is meant to be like that. I like "fat" noodles, so I will choose the original yellow noodle (in the picture). You can always request for other noodles if you dislike it (eg. skinny yellow noodle/horfun/beehun).

If you can't stand places with bad service, write this place off. Their food is really good so they are always busy. Busy people tends to get all cranky easily, hence resulting in bad service. Don't expect them to smile and be all nice to you. If you want to avoid such experience, just pack and go else where to eat. I personally don't like sitting there (I can't stand their horrible attitude towards customers).

Check out their site for more pictures and other information.

Seafood Empire

Overcooked calamaris.

Fish and chips - not really fresh. Tasted a bit weird and it did not come with tartar sauce. You will have to pay extra for the sauce.

Expensive lobster. Too small for that price.

I will not go back to this place. Price is average, say $10-$15 per dish but seafood didn't taste fresh, very dry. I'd rather pay more for better food. Travel a bit and go to Lazy Lobster if you want something better.

Ying Ker Lou Hakka Restaurant

Yam abacus beads/Suen pun zi. The only thing I like most from Ying Ker Lou. It's a bit chewy like kuih.

Hakka zha yuk / Fried pork. I love zha yuk, but definitely not this one. Their zha yuk is a bit tasteless.. I'm not sure is it because they did not fry is long enough or they did not add enough ingredients... but meat is a bit too soft and tasteless.

Rice wine chicken. Not good at all. The soup has no chicken taste and the rice wine is way too heavy. I only tasted the rice wine and nothing else. Lack of ginger too... I felt as though I was drinking rice wine only.

Hakka noodle.

Hakka Poon Choi / Pen Chai. Traditional dish which has everything in it - chicken, pork, prawn, vege, tofu, noodles. The portion is quite huge, enough to feed five people.

Note: Outlets can be found in most major shopping malls

P/S: It's not very authentic Hakka food. You can only find good Hakka restaurants out of the city, probably small town houses. Might pop in some ideas if I know any.

Left Bank

Ocean trout

Rib eye with beetroot salad

Roasted duck breast - Maybe I'm not used to eating duck breast this way. I find it rather hard to chew and it's pretty tasteless. The chinese style roasted duck is way better...

Braised veal shank - A bit too soft. I'm not too sure whether it's meant to be that soft, but I think it's a little too soft. I don't quite like the taste of it either.. I should have ordered something else.

Chips.. or rather wedges..

Mashed potato - The only thing I enjoyed most..

The interior design of this restaurant is fabulous. I personally think the ambience is quite good. The only thing I didn't really enjoy was the noise. It was so difficult to talk - I had to speak so loudly so that people could hear me. It's a bit annoying if you want to catch up with your old friends. The bar is always full during weekends (or at least whenever I pass by that place). The food is a bit pricey, considering that the food quality is only average. Nothing to really shout about. I will come to this place for a drink instead of food.

*Note : Remember to book beforehand. It's always full.

Skewers Restaurant & Bar

Mash potato

Assorted vegetables

Platter to share - beef, prawn, fish skewers

Teriyaki chicken skewers

Some fried stuff. It has kaya and nutella in it

I'm not really impressed with this place. At first I spotted a white worm moving. I believe it was from the veggie. Later on I spotted a small insect inside my Long Island Tea. They served a new cup and later on I saw another insect in the new cup. At least they bothered to change a new one.. As for the taste of the food? Beef bit overcooked, prawns just nice. Among all I think the prawn is the best. Be really careful if you want to go there. Too many insects in the food. Maybe I was just unlucky that night =(

Wan Tan Mee Sg Besi

Wan tan mee with char siew (barbecued pork)

Wan tan mee with curry san zhu yuk (wild boar curry)

Curry wan tan mee

Top : Fried wan tan
Mid : Soup wan tan
Bottom : Fried sui gao (dumplings)

Wan tan mee is always the last thing I will ever think of whenever I'm hungry. I never really fancy wan tan mee. Surprisingly this is the only place I want to come for wan tan mee. I can't really tell if it's really that good, but for someone as picky as me, this one is good enough. I love their wild boar curry wan tan mee. The normal wan tan mee can be gotten anywhere else, so try the wild boar curry.

As for the dumplings, I don't really like it. I think the fried sui gao at Ampang is way better. Will talk about that sometime later. Just stick to their wantans. Be it fried or soup wantans, they are just as good. I can finish up 20 wantans all by myself...

*Note : It's a small stall by the roadside, right after the newly opened Southgate (previously Nichi Fashion / before Nichi, the Tobacco Company)

Restaurant Kepala Ikan Chan Sow Lin

Curry beef if I'm not wrong..

Fried lala with garlic and chilli. So spicy!

Steamed fish head with ginger and garlic.

Chilli stripes in almost every dish. Even the vegetable we ordered also has chilli stripes in it. Don't even try to bite the chilli if you can't take spicy food. I accidentally ate one small piece and my tongue was burning the whole time.. Ok apart from the spiciness, I love the taste of their food. I don't like fish head (more like I don't know how to enjoy the beauty of eating fish heads), so I just ate the meat. I love the amount of garlic served, even better still if they add more. I'm a huge fan of garlic. Lala's huge and fresh, a bit too spicy for my likings. Consider asking for less spicy if you don't like spicy food. Now I feel like going back again... Not easy to find the place if you do not know that area.

Ayam Betutu Gilimanuk

Ayam betutu, local indonesian food. We wanted to order Bebek betutu but they ran out of bebek already. Ayam is chicken while bebek is duck. Unlike Bahasa Malaysia, we call duck as itik. This ayam betutu is a little bit dry. More a less like any fried chicken, the only difference should be the spice used to marinade the food. Yummy stuff, a must try local delicacy.

The chilli on top of the veggie is extremely spicy! So spicy I almost cried. However it was good. You'd probably love it if you are a chilli eater. I really love the chilli, it carries a little bit of sourish taste. It is just too bad that I can't really eat spicy food.

Gelatomio. The perfect dessert after dinner. Cookies and cream is my personal favourite. Their fruity ice-cream tastes good too. They have this ice-cream on the rock thing which I have never tried. Maybe I will... someday. Who cares if ice-cream makes people fat, as long as it makes you happy. Go grab one now! =)
