Bai Toey

It is located about 10 minutes walk from our hotel (Mövenpick Resort & Spa Karon Beach Phuket).

I like the decor and the ambience, felt really comfortable in a vintage looking place.

Though, the food is a letdown...

The food were not spicy at all, they were made to cater people who can't take spicy food. I believe if we request for it they MIGHT adjust it.

The presentation of the rice. Very clever!

The salad which was almost tasteless.

I believe it is because of the location, hence, food were tweaked according to the majority who are around that area, not really much of the local flavours.

Well what can I say... They are not entirely wrong. Most tourists around the area are Caucasians, and most of them can't take spicy food. If you are really too lazy to go any further and wish to dine in this place, I would suggest that you remind them to increase the level of spiciness (provided you can take it!).

Rakuzen

That one place that will not go wrong for decent Japanese food.

There are a few outlets around Klang Valley. I've visited a couple but my favourite would be the one at G Tower as it is usually less crowded and service is really good.

*Can't believe I have not posted a single thing about Rakuzen yet! This is my second most visited Jap restaurant in Klang Valley (after Kampachi).

Maki

Your local neighbourhood Japanese restaurant in Richmoond.

Their selections of rolls are rather pricey, but to be fair, the ingredients are fresh and pretty generous.

A standard bowl of soup noodle, nothing special. Nothing beats Koya...

I didn't even know the existence of this Jap restaurant in Avenue ...

They have quite a number of selections; yakitori, noodles, rice, etc. Those bamboo shoots on the noodle are really stinky... Eww!!

Overall I would say it's "just another jap restaurant". Not particularly impressive, not bad either.
P/S: I would rather have their noodles than rice. :)

Nothing that I specifically like from the food we've ordered. But there are two things which I have to pinpoint.
  1. The furniture's colour (mostly dark coloured), attracts mosquitoes and they do not have anything, say maybe a plant or anything that could help with the problem. It is a problem, you wouldn't want your customers to dine in hell, right?
  2. Service is almost non-existent. Every time I needed something I would have to WALK all the way to the counter. So, what's wrong with that? We will then be charged service or whatever crap taxes/fees for people to hide behind the counter, playing with their cellphones. They can't even be bothered to come over to check out if we need anything. I think I've walked over to the counter for at least 5 times for the entire dinner. It would probably be more logical to set a numbering system where I can just collect my food from the counter. What is the point of table service again?

Emirates: Lamb Biryani Rice

I was really impressed with Emirates's lamb biryani rice - the meat is super tender, the rice is really fragrant! You know how we always get chewy or gamey meat especially when it comes to flight meals (and we can't do anything about it) but nooooo this one is just nice! Of course not to be compared to the ones on ground, but really, it is far better than just "edible". It was so good I finished the entire portion! Om nom nom! Well as what they always say, you get what you pay for!

Softsrve - Ice Cream & Dessert Bar

For a cup for RM10/11 with toppings, wait that's not a cup, it's 1/3 of that cup since the bottom bit is empty just to fill in dry ice for that awesome effect. If I remember correctly it costs RM8 for the plain one.. I don't quite like the idea of the shallow cup, I find it really misleading.. Also, the cotton candy is pretty but just unnecessary. The ice cream was on melting mode before I could dig into it!!

Am I the only one who thinks this cup of ice cream is a little overrated?!?!?! I don't deny this cup of ice cream is really beautiful  though I don't see the value of being a returning customer. Though I wouldn't mind returning another time for the Churros version :)

Lady M

According to the cousin, it is a MUST to try Lady M's crepe cakes. Just by looking at their finely baked cakes, I felt the need to try everything!!

Though, I've only resorted to one slice...

One slice of super rich and heavenly green tea mille crepe cake... It looks really heavy but the mousse is really light..

One piece to share, as we had too much to eat for the day.. Though I wouldn't if I could finish it all by myself!

P/S: I'm not really a cake person, but I have to give it a like! I'd definitely their signature crepe cake, or some other selection the next time I step into Lady M! :D

Bai Wei

There are many restaurants in Chinatown, and they probably look all the same to you.

Bai Wei serves really typical Chinese food (mainland Chinese food), probably in between Szechuan and Hunan?

Everything practically came with chilli oil..

If you're craving for food with chilli oil, this is the place to be....

John's of Bleecker Street

Cousin brought me to this popular little pizza joint. I've ordered the pepperoni pizza to share between four. It's THAT huge! (Or at least for me...) For those of you who can finish the entire pizza by yourself, we are not on the same page... It's massive!!! Though it is actually possible to finish it since the crust is really thin.

Can't believe it has been a year since I've had this pizza... And this post has been stuck in the draft section for a year now! Bring me back to the States for a slice of this awesome pizza! :O
