The Steamer Inn

Dressed crab. Sooooo huge portion..

Sharing some photos from the visit to the bar some time ago. Most places were already closed when we were searching around for food. This was the only place we could find food, and it was their last call already. I recalled it being only about 9pm?! People are really, really early in this island!

Leaf & Bean

Mushroom Soup

Japanese Style Pork Chop

Mini Pork Patty

Chicken Chop with Fries

Chicken Chop with Salad

Shaved Sesame Ice

Kepong is off my radar but we made it there for lunch. This little cafe reminds me of Kim Gary's HK Cafe style concept. There are plenty of choices, Asian and Western style. Even Malaysian food like Nasi Lemak, just because it's not really a HK cafe but more fusion like. The Mini Pork Patty is apparently one of their popular must-try dishes. Finger food selections are priced below RM10. Western food like chicken chop is not over RM20 which is reasonable. There are also lunch sets (or maybe even dinner) which goes between RM15-RM22. It comes with a free soup or salad and a drink. It's really not a bad place to grab quick lunch or dinner for such price and you'll get comfortable seats too.

Little Putuo Island

A very small island in Erhai Lake. We went on a cruise for scenic places and Little Putuo Island was one of the stop - to visit the temple.

The stop was only for about 20 minutes so didn't have much time for the temple. Instead, we got ourselves some local street delights!

Freshly prepared seafood

Most of the shops are selling the same thing - grilled fish, deep-fried snacks.

I think it's a mixture of shrimps and langoustines, some are very much larger. I think these Chinese people are quite good at scamming. They have one set of live stock, the other side would be cooked. Only about 10% of the live stock are in the prepped cup - there are really, really small shrimps inside which I couldn't find in the live stock basket. Cheaters..

Just beware of pickpockets and street food stall scammers. Actually they are all probably the same.

The South East

This place attracts office crowd... They have plenty of choices - Malaysian, Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian

Decided to get myself a bowl of Pho (RM16.90)

We asked for Fish Sauce but we got Sesame Oil instead. After a couple of times going back and forth they finally got us a new one. Extremely annoyed with their service... It's really annoying when we try to explain and the staff does not understand and can't be bothered to ask the manager... Staff training definitely needed...

The Fish Sauce is very much needed as it didn't taste Viet style at all - just beef flavouring. Adding fish sauce will make it taste a lot better! Overall it was alright for the price we paid for. It's quite a large portion and the beef slices are just generous. The only downside is the noodles - we all know Pho noodles are slightly thicker!

Pigs & Wolf

Salmon Avocado Ikura Pasta

The Wolf's Favourite

Pork Ribs

High class cafe style food. Not a bad place for regular dining. Service can be a bit slow if you're sitting outside. Pretty much like WIP's sort of pricing, about RM30 per pasta and ribs is about RM80 per plate.

That cafe in front of the artificial beach. Unfortunately they are closed... but reopening in May 16'!!

When they are back, do have loads of oysters... Get a plate for yourself- these are all mine and I don't share! For the love of oysters! They do serve a wide selection of seafood but I didn't have enough room to fit anything else after oysters. :P

Sam Kee BBQ Place

First time to Kluang, did a little research online and ended up at this place. Little did I know that there are plenty of Chinese food in this little town.

Of course these can't be compared to the ones we get in KL, but sometimes, less commercialised flavours are healthier. For example, this BBQ Roast Pork isn't as chargrilled as the ones we can get in KL. Look on the brighter side - those black burnt bits are delicious but it's not good for us. Some says it is cancerous, but who knows?!

At Sam Kee, the BBQ Roast Pork is not really chargrilled, and after pouring sauce on it, it became just like another stir-fry pork. Roast pork is really good though - very crispy skin! The only thing tht bothered me was the thickness of the meat. It was too thin like paper. It would have been so juicy if it's thicker!

The roast duck is yummy too - the layer of fats beneath the skin makes the duck so juicy! Skin is slightly crispy which made it so good.

If you happen to be crossing this place before heading to Mersing Jetty, and also craving for Chinese goodness, this is the place to be. We were there really early when the shop was only half full but the wait for our food was pretty long... It was at least 30 minutes. These are all prepared food so I find the long wait is really unnecessary. It's just no wonder this place is so filled up - so many people waiting and waiting. If they could work on the wait time it would be perfect.

Lotte Food Court

Some photos from food booth @ Lotte Food Court.

Moral of the story: Do not order Japanese food in Korea... Looks good tastes meh, even though they are neighbours but... I still wouldn't order anymore Jap food here.

This was one of my favourite in the food court and on my second trip back to Korea I had to go back again for it. Unfortunately it didn't have that wow factor thereafter.

Keng-Dom Restaurant

Ever since the launching of Straits Hotel Suite, shops around became so much more livelier.

Food in this restaurant seemed decently good, nothing much to comment about. These are pretty standard chinese food, Stir-fry dishes have the "wok hei", especially those noodles.

But this pot of curry is probably the one dish worth talking about. It's their signature pork ribs curry served with a layer of "pastry". Just like in Mamak stalls, you get Roti Canai and curry, it's a pretty similar concept. Those ribs are so tender, cooked in the pork of thick curry. The pastry is however, much better than Roti Canai because it is not as oily. It is served really, really hot, like immediately out from the oven. Thus, pastry is hot and crusty. So fresh!

So in order to get to the curry we have to remove the pastry. If the pastry is left for too long, it wouldn't be as crusty anymore. Best to eat it when it's hot! It's great if you love pork and also curry. As we all may already know, pork in curry is not a common item as it is Non-Halal item.

Normal Boiled Chicken / Pak Cham Kai.

Mixed vegetables.

Mochi peanut balls with black sesame fillings.

Might suggest to reserve a table - this place is really packed after 7pm! I'm guessing it must a popular place to dine for the locals. Food is OK overall, apart from that Pork Curry Pie everything else is just the usual Chinese stuff.

Mak's Chee

Decided to try the wonton mee despite the fact that I never like wonton mee.

It was only for media till late evening, so we had to queue for it after whatever event they were having earlier.

They don't look local to me, perhaps they are all from HK, hopefully not just for the opening! When I took this picture they all gave me the really peculiar stare. I thought they should have gotten used to it by now!

Noodle selection. It was the hardest time ever to decide!!

Some people asked if it's comparable to the one in HK. I haven't even tried the one in HK I'm really not sure, but then again if the chefs are from HK the quality should be comparable! Also, it was still their launching week it has to been good, isn't it?!

Noodle with Dried Prawn Roe Sprinkle (RM14.90)

Noodle with Braised Beef Tendon / Brisket (RM15.90)

Noodle with Signature Sea Prawn Wonton (RM14.90)

There are actually 2 more wontons beneath the 3. Not too bad!

Noodle with Sea Prawn Wonton + Add-On Brisket (RM16.90)

Wonton + Dumpling Soup (RM16.90)

We added a bowl of sides just because I thought the prawn roe looks plain but meh, I was wrong! I'm a fan of wonton so I don't mind a few bowls of it. Some black fungus found in the dumpling, makes it so crunchy, yums.

The soup is very light with really fresh prawn flavour and some of the green dragon vegetables (Directly translated from Cantonese because I haven't got a clue what is it called in English.. Perhaps it came from the chives family so they are some Chinese chives!).

I don't know about general public, but I personally like it. The only place I would probably have wonton mee. It may be overrated, but then again their wonton mee is really better than most shops in KL. I don't like wonton mee but I'm OK with this one - perhaps I like it thin like Angel's Hair. Beef is extremely tender, wonton skin is very thin, wrapping a whole prawn by itself. Prices are about that for food in shopping malls. Now you don't need to fly to HK just for wonton mee, wonton mee flew to you!
