IKKI

The definition of failure and overpriced cocktails... Though I have to admit it's very pretty from the outside. I've been here on different occasions, and have tried at least 5 cocktails to be very sure that their cocktails aren't up to expectations, despite the fact that they have award winning bartenders.

Possibly the worst of all. Ice ratio is more than liquid.

Beautiful and that's about it.

I just don't even know what to say about their drinks anymore. Alcohol must be darn expensive.

Don't think I'll ever return. If I do, it'll be a whole bottle but not their pretentious and pricey cocktails.

Likes: Beautifully presented
Dislikes: But beauty means nothing when cocktails are bland and diluted. Expensive too. Way too overrated...

Kuroshio Market

Sashimi Platter (RM35.90)

I thought they are pretty generous with the portion - Thick cuts, fresh sashimi. That's how Jap restaurants should be... I hate it when restaurants are stingy, don't forget the freshness of the fish won't last for too long. Instead of keeping till you serve unfresh fish or rotten ones, might as well be generous to those who have ordered on the spot... Quite happy they picked up the theory.

Salmon Ikura Don (RM25.90)

They are listed on The Entertainer. Enjoy buy 1 main, free 1 main. In our case, we redeemed the rice bowls.

Yakiniku Beef (RM24.90)

Be sure you read the terms on conditions - they are not even sure themselves and told me Yakiniku rice is not part of the deal. But... rice bowls are anyhow in the same menu and the same category, so I'm confused why can't I redeem this. I really don't understand the logic - as you already know, you have to pay for the expensive item and the cheaper item will be free. This beef rice bowl is cheaper anyway, so what's the big deal again?

We added an egg for our ricebowls.

Likes: Affordable, generous portion, convenient
Dislikes: Really limited parking spaces unless you pay for the parking next to it, could work on friendliness of staffs and knowledge on The Entertainer if they plan to market it in that app.

Dah Makan: Herb Crusted Perch with Roasted Vegetables, Cous Cous & Tomato Coulis

RM18 for it. I thought this wasn't worth it at all. Half the box is empty.

To be fair, this was last year's order. They may have improved over time.

Just that there's probably no more RM18 boxes now - prices have gone up!

Some facts about Dah Makan:
  1. Pork free
  2. Not gluten free or nut free - at least it is not specified anywhere
  3. You should order a day before, but you can still order on the same day through their Mobile App.
  4. Approximately RM20 - RM25 per box
  5. 3 types everyday, click here for more information.
  6. Number to contact - 018.201.5592 (Mon-Fri, 9am - 6:30pm)
  7. Click here for their webpage.
  8. Click here for Facebook page
  9. Click here for Instagram page
  10. Email address: care@dahmakan.com
  11. Free delivery in KL - Contact them to confirm delivery charges for Selangor areas
Verdict: Overall the food is good - portion is pretty good for me. I just did not like their fish dish. I believe fish should be eaten fresh. I will not order or recommend anyone else to order their fish dish....

Check out their site and if you are keen- Click here for RM10 off your first order :)

CAFE de CRIE

Instead of standing and eating street food at Nishiki Market, we went to this cafe at the end of the street, just few doors away from BAKE Kyoto.

I thought their Matcha Latte to be pretty awesome - smooth and not very creamy. Just that warm drink I needed after walking in the cold...

Likes: Simple and convenient, not as mainstream as Starbucks.
Dislikes: I thought my latte was great so nothing that I dislike.

UCC Cafe

We found this placec by accident - we just wanted a place to sit down and have cakes and coffee.

This place is just 2 minutes walk from Kuromon Ichiba Market. They seem to be packed even after 9.30pm so I'm guessing this cafe must be alright.

We ordered strawberry cake and tea, boy they actually put a whole strawberry in it!! The cake was a little dry though. Of course, a cup of coffee as we sat right in front of where they made the coffee, don't think anyone can hold that temptation!

Likes: Simple and convenient.
Dislikes: Probably nothing that special for a visit, just a drink would do.

Tonkatsu by Ma Maison

We ordered a few different sets - ranging from the originals to the newer items on the back page.

From pictures, they look almost the same - a chunk of meat sliced into a few pieces, refillable cabbage, soup and rice, a sauce plate and a pickles.

I can't remember the name of the items, but we like both sets on the first 2-3 pages. We ordered one on the last or second last page was just bland.

The good thing is - they are available on The Entertainer, which offers buy 1 free 1 set. The downside is, they don't accept reservations, they are always full, and staffs are cranky to the max when it's busy. Expect staffs ignoring you, forgetting your orders, forgetting to refill, which explains how understaffed they are and how they can't really handle when it's too busy.

Don't forget the the cabbage, soup and rice is refillable!!

A little instruction board on how to eat Tonkatsu :D

Likes: Value for money, signature pork dish is highly recommended!
Dislikes: Understaffed, not enough people to handle crowd, order takes forever, constantly ignored

Fushimi Inari

Apart from Fushimi Inari itself, another thing that's interesting are the food shops along the way. You'll see a range of different food carts - takoyaki, sweets, bbq stuff. This one pork shop caught my attention...

The pork are cut into nice chunks like processed meat but they aren't processed meat!! Looks so fine and juicy - it has to be their skillful slice method that made it look so fine!

We decided to try half - and thought everyone else who sees this should actually try it! It's super crazy juicy and this is not any normal pork.... Yum!

Have some of it and you'll have the energy to climb Fushimi Inari. I promise.

Signature By The Hill

Utilised The Entertainer deal for dinner and arrived really early - at 6pm.

Most of the tables by the window were reserved for 8pm onwards. We requested for one of the tables they refused initially. I pressed on it a few more times they agreed provided that we are done by time of reservation. Hello, it's 6pm, I will be done by 8pm!!! It's oddly strange that they rather leave the table empty for 2 hours.

Chicken Chop

Pasta with Meatballs

I can't remember what the amount was, but we only paid less than RM50 including drinks. Such a good deal!  But I doubt I'll return if they are not The Entertainer - didn't think the food was excellent, just normal cafe style. Ambience is very good but sunset is on the other side, can't see much from this side.

Likes: Great ambience
Dislikes: Average cafe food, not fine dining but somewhat tried to portray like one, some staffs can be rather unreasonable to allow table to be empty for 2 hours?

Family Mart Japan

Apart from Michelin restaurants or the top places that one should go to, Family Mart is everybody's best friend. Breakfast, to-go food, supper, Family Mart has everything!!

We bought one of these just to see if they do actually have seafood in it.,

Feel like drinking? Just grab one off the shelve..

We bought some Oden back for supper..

As for the soup, it is real clams, all vacuum packed!

Pretty darn good too! Just all the reasons to love Family Mart. Craving for their Ice Latte now...
