Duck & Waffle

I make a visit to D&W everytime I'm down in London as it was one of my favourite places to go to back when I was based in London. Back in 2012, their booking system was less complicated and we could still walk in during lunch hours on a weekday.

Ever since they gained popularity over the years, booking is mandatory - weekends are full weeks in advance, weekdays can be quite impossible to book a week ahead unless it's during odd hours like 11am or 2.30pm onwards. Though they are open 24 hours a day, it's still difficult to get a reservation. We were really lucky to pull a reservation for 6 at 1pm.

We had to wait for about 15-20 minutes, we arrived a bit earlier than our reservation time so it was fine. What disappointed me was the table that they served. We were given the table for 4 in the middle area - when we had a party of 6! I requested to move to a bigger table but my request was turned down 3 times. I knew we were going to get a bit uncomfortable so I insisted to move after a party of 6 left.

Homemade Bread (£6)

We were then moved to the bigger table, where the server is different too. Now we understand why she was not keen to move us to a bigger table. Also, I did put a request that I wanted a table by the window, which was completely ignored.

Duck and Waffle (£17)

Nevertheless, apart from the service issue, all of us enjoyed their signature duck & waffle.

Duck and Waffle (£36)

Bit too bland, didn't think the sauce combi was great.

Some facts about them:
  1. You can reserve, but your table is not setup when you arrive on the dot. Their system appears to be you'll need to wait upon arrival for the next available table.
  2. If there is no available table, they will squeeze you into smaller tables.
  3. Special request column is practically useless, they don't even read it anyway.
  4. Changing table is a nightmare, their staffs wouldn't want you to do that due to tipping issues I believe.

Likes: Food is great as usual, you'll get a nice view of London too. Prices are reasonable for the type of dining, not too expensive either. A casual lunch plate would probably cost £20 per pax?
Dislikes: Reservation system is horrendous. The only reason why I dislike this place - it's so disorganised and none of your requests are being put into consideration. Also the reason why I've stopped visiting this place and never thought of coming here anyway - there are places with better service level.
