Highland Viet Cafe

Beef Pho (RM13.80)

Soup is quite bland, with just 2 slices (broken in to small bits) of beef. The price is not too expensive but in terms of value it's not great with the broken bits of beef slices...

Really not the ideal place for pho. Ara Vietnamese Noodles is less than 10 minutes away and they way better pho.. On a brighter note - the vegetables are very fresh!

Stuffed Bittergourd (RM8.90)

Rather similar to Hakka's Yong Tau Foo but the Viets would normally use just pork. It's not surprising to spot similarities, as there are also Chinese descents in Vietnam. Fish sauce is a very common condiment in Vietnamese dishes and it is also used in this dish, whereas Hakkas don't won't use it in YTF. There you go, it looks the same but it tastes different.

Seafood Fried Noodles (RM13.90)

I didn't think fish sauce based noodle with really frozen seafood was attractive.. I prefer my maggi goreng more...

Spring Rolls (RM7.90)

This looked and tasted even more unappetising... Expect one half sad prawn per prawn roll... I think I'd rather have lesser rolls and better quality rolls...

Clearly did not look like what we see in front of their shop!

Banh Mi Pork (RM7.90)

The baguette was very good - it was really crusty like the ones we had in Saigon... unfortunately, the roast pork tasted awfully weird, and pork was not crispy. They've mixed it with some sauce I did not like, not sure what sort of bbq sauce is that but it tasted really bad.

Not too sure if I will return again... Nothing particularly memorable at all..

Likes: Food prices are quite reasonable, fresh vegetables, great to serve the neighbourhood
Dislikes: But bad in terms of value - cheap and not generous portion of meat... Pho is really average, very peppery
