Mr Fish FishHead Noodle 鱼鲜生鱼头米粉

Ever since the unpleasant incident at Goon Wah, I just wanted to explore fish head noodles around Klang Valley. Despite being a loyal customer at Goon Wah, it seems that they don't really value loyalty afterall... We found Mr Fish as we passed by the shop at Starling Mall.

Mall prices are slightly higher - it's at least RM15 per bowl. You get value sets that comes with rojak and a drink for around RM20? Being a greedy me, I've also added even more things into my noodles. We tried both grouper and tilapia - it looks like they don't use fresh fish, only fried fish. I'm a terrible fish person.... Other than cod and salmon, I probably don't really know much about fish. Grouper and tilapia pretty much looks the same to me after it's chopped into pieces and coated with fried batter.

The taste of tilapia wasn't to my likings - the earthy taste is too pungent and this fish doesn't give a nice flavour to the broth. I've also added a salmon fish head which didn't make the soup any sweeter. The salmon was edible though.

The grouper in the other hand, creates a nice sweet aroma to the broth and the fish is also very sweet. I'm guessing that it could be the additional fish paste I've added into my bowl that made it even sweeter. This version is definitely much better than the tilapia.

Both bowls came with a hint of Chinese rice wine and too much white pepper. It should have been just a dash. Overall, the broth is milky but not much nice aromatic seafood flavours in it. It's not a bad place to satisfy your cravings for the day, with no high expectations. I still prefer fresh fish over fried fish but it's not often shops could keep up to fresh fish unless they have a high turnover rate. Otherwise, we customers will complain the fish is not fresh. Price is a little higher compared to what you pay outside, but consider this being in a mall and in a clean and comfortable shop so it's not too bad.

Likes: Convenient, grouper with fish paste was alright, clean and comfortable space
Dislikes: Broth tastes a bit bland and too peppery, tilapia was not great, no fresh fish choices

  1. Hi, we do serve fresh fish. You need to write “Non fried” at the remark when you order. You can request for more/less for the items that you like/dislike. Thank you.
