Naughty Nuri's Ubud

The very popular Balinese ribs from the original Nuris Ubud!

Honestly speaking, it's just one warung that looks just like any other warung in Bali. It's not fancy, no air-conditioning or beautiful plating.

Ribs are boiled beforehand to get rid of the residue. The whole marinating and grilling process is performed right at the entrance. It's such a clever way to attract people to enter their warung!

I thought the marinade time was too short... Simply dipping it for a couple of minutes and the cooking begins.

It's grilled till dry before they start serving it.

A typical portion costs IDR120k. This is a really small portion for one..

I found the meat to be a bit too tough, not really flavourful and too dry for my likings. Perhaps I prefer the Malaysia's version more where it falls off the bone. I have no clue why the one in Ubud is so different - in terms of texture, not taste. The taste is similar or rather the same as it's the same recipe. It's the grilling method and how they serve with no sauce at all so it's just dry. Additional sauce is served in a separate bottle where it's available at every table.

I definitely had difficulties ripping the the meat off the bone.

Vegetable portion was really generous, comes with chicken stock soup. I thought I needed vegetable after having too much meat.

Likes: Traditional warung, food arrived really quick
Dislikes: Ribs were definitely overrated, I probably wouldn't travel all the way to Ubud for it. Ribs were definitely too expensive for the tiny portion too.

People rave about their breakfast plates, but here I am raving about their cocktails. I haven't had their brunch selections yet so I wouldn't know.

 Sweet Pea of Mine (RM39)

Very nice subtle jackfruit taste and may be a bit too sweet for some people.

 Ring My Bell (RM39)

It was too mild for me to remember the taste...

 Back to the Future (RM39)

Tastes a lot like Chinese herbal tea with alcohol... It's too weird for me.

 Stinging in the Bush (RM39)

The floral drink.

 Who Smoked the Hopper? (RM39)

Looks and tastes like After 8 chocolate!

 Holy Shiit-ake! (RM39)

Creative name, pretty glass, but it tastes exactly like mushroom. Not my kind of thing.

 Coco Like Jagger (RM39)

Drink was mild and sweet, but don't ever eat that cake. It has been laying around for days...

Stirred Down & Brown (RM39)

Definitely my favourite of all time - ice coated with coconut oil and the drink is potent! Not for you who wants it mild.

 Buttery & I Know It (RM39)

Too creamy for my likings.

Customised cocktail #1

There was nothing memorable about this - it tasted weird.

Customised Hot Cocktail...

Something different from the usuals... Hot cocktail for the sick!

Guacamole Chips

Did not like the guacamole mix - It was just lack of something.

Fried Squid where the batter was uncooked.

Likes: Cocktails - try Stirred Down & Brown if you like it strong and not sweet. Sweet Pea of Mine if you like it strong and sweet.
Dislikes: Bar food

Delhi Royale

Ever had Northern Indian food in Kuala Lumpur? It's quite rare as what we normally get is the Southern taste. A friend bought some vouchers from Fave and brought us here for the lunch buffet. It costs around RM25-RM30 per pax?

There are a few curries to choose, some sweets which I did not have enough room to try.

Fresh and hot bread is provided as well - dip it in their curry for better taste.

Some salty yogurt drink which I find it to be too unique for me..

I really like the super tender mutton briyani! Tandoori chicken was too dry..

All in all, RM30 per head is really reasonable as it comes with a drink too. Drinks are not refillable though - I made a mistake by ordering that salty yogurt. They also have lime juice which I should have ordered...

Likes: Value for money buffet
Dislikes: Limited choices

What's the first thing that comes to mind every single day once the clock ticks for lunch time? We always hear these words that comes out from our colleague's mouth;

Where to eat? Where should we go? It's so jam outside la! Sien ah, I don't know what to eat today.. Don't you worry child, TrySmartBite has got a plan for you..

Not only it is value for money which also saves you time from getting stuck in the traffic, it is also easy to order with over +50 partnered restaurants that you can choose from without leaving your office building.

Let me show you how easy it is. My colleagues and I are avid fans of ordering online delivery simply because we are lazy to go out.

Before we start talking about ordering, remember to check if they deliver to your location. Since they are still quite new, there are places within the city centre which requires activation. Don’t get all upset – you can always drop them an email to find out if this can be activated.

We added 3 items into the cart, checked out at around 9am on the same day.

You’re paying the same price you see from the menu. No hidden / additional / delivery charges; it’s so easy to calculate right? Imagine if you have to order for 20 pax and if you have colleagues who calculates to the cent… Saves you the trouble!

Once you’ve placed your order, you’ll be able to see the confirmation from the order history. It is just as simple as that!! There is no button online to cancel your order at the moment, but fret not, just give them a call/SMS and it will be resolved really quickly. Also, there is no online payment option for now but who knows this may be implemented real soon!

Delivery time is between 11.30am – 12.15pm, and our lunch boxes was still warm when it arrived at 12pm. Now let’s see what’s in the box. Chicken cashew for RM6.90 (early bird promo, normal price is RM10.50). Fa-Ying is part of Rama V’s group, this cannot go wrong. I like how our boxes neatly packed and segregated. I’m one of those who never likes gravy on my rice…

Some facts about TrySmartBite:

  1. Halal friendly (worry no more!)
  2. Not gluten free or nut free - at least it is not specified anywhere. But you can email them for any special request
  3. You should order a day before for better deals, but you can still order on the same day before 11am
  4. Approximately RM7-RM20
  5. 7 options daily, click here for more information.
  6. Click here for their webpage.
  7. Click here for Facebook page
  8. Click here for Instagram page
  9. Email address:
  10. Free delivery for areas they deliver to
Verdict: We thought the portion is fair for the price. Taste was ok; can’t go anywhere wrong with Fa-Ying. Also, the price is inclusive of delivery fee which is one of the most affordable among all the other sites I’ve ordered from.

Maruhi Sakaba 大众秘酒场

This place is an alternative if you're feeling too broke for Sumika but you still want to have Japanese Yakitori.

It's inexpensive and the portions are reasonable. Expect to pay around RM40-RM50 per person depending on your appetite. We were not particularly hungry but just looking to fill our tummies.

One thing you to note - you need to calculate how many sticks you've had, best it to take photos, as they tend to serve lesser than what you've ordered and bill you anyway.

It's not on purpose, but it could get a little messy if you add orders and the place is so busy. Best to keep track on your order.

I was looking forward to the Tsukune but it turned out to be a disappointment - the soft bones are not properly crushed so you can feel it on every bite you take out of that stick.

Also take note that the place is nothing fancy or air-conditioned but just a regular shoplot - if I have to describe it further it's like a Japanese mamak stall.

Likes: Reasonable prices, value for money yakitori
Dislikes: Not everything is good, could work on tracking/accuracy of orders

TOUAN Japanese Restaurant

Collagen Chicken Nabe (RM78)

Chicken hot pot set that was supposed to be for two pax... but the portion is really small so it's fit for one pax only.

The portion comes with premade thick and flavourful chicken soup, lightly torched chicken thigh, minced chicken in a bamboo and a small portion of vegetable.

For RM78 it's really a little pricey but it was worth it - I finished every drop of the broth!!

We shared our food as there were other food to try too - if I finish this all by myself I will not be able to try their Yakitori.

Since I don't eat much for lunch, I opted for 4 different sticks - Tsukune and innards! It brought back the taste I've had in  Japan!! I always thought Sumika is the only place I could go to but here in Touan you can get good Yakitori too! We noticed from far that it was the Japanese chef who prepared our food.

Our meal came up to around RM140? It's a little pricey dining in Isetan The Japan Store but the quality is guaranteed.

Likes: Authentic Japanese food
Dislikes: Could work on the pricing/portion ratio, a service bell may be good as the corner is always left forgotten
