Vesper Cocktail Bar

It's not difficult to know what to drink in Bangkok. This bar was suggested by Asia's 50 Best Bars 2017.

The Flower Carrier (THB400), is very good for illustration purposes. Very refreshing and mild.

I like how their menu comes like a storybook, and I was clearly attracted to the name of this cocktail.

The soup cocktail was recommended by the bartender, Pan. He said this cocktail would be pretty for pictures and it's also quite strong. He made sure it was strong before serving it to me!

Campbell Soup Cans (THB400)

No it's nothing like campbell soup. It's very refreshing and at the same time you don't know when the soup would hit you. It feels very fruity but have it with the popcorn for a hint of savoury.

And you get to write your name on the glass, how cute!

As much as I wanted this simply because it's Audrey Hepburn.... But I backed off - sparkling stuff is not my kind of drink...


Likes: Cosy bar, photo-friendly drinks, very innovative, very easy to locate the bar - lots of street shops just right outside the bar
Dislikes: Nothing

Burger & Lobster

Not my first time having Burger & Lobster in London - but it's definitely my first in Mayfair. Back then, it was so much easier for people with difficulties to choose as the menu was limited to burger or lobster, grilled or steamed.

Now, they started to offer different items so we got ourselves the 1.5 pounds lobster for £40 to share. It's impossible to finish one by myself.

The only downside of Mayfair's branch is the service. It's absolutely horrid - the staffs wouldn't give us the menu and when we asked they threw a sarcastic remark that made us sound like we are impatient. Hello, we have been seated for 10 minutes and still no menu.

When we wanted to order, we had to signal 3 times before they came. Again, the same sarcastic remark that we were being impatient, after 15 minutes of sitting and staring at the menu with nobody attending to us.

When we asked for recommendation she insisted that we order two - we told her that we just had some food before coming so it's not possible for us to eat so much. She insisted that we were wrong until the food arrived. It was good to share, we know ourselves more.. What kind of wait staffs would recommend something that customers know they don't want..

And here you go, the bill that came with a sarcastic remark when we asked for it too. This is a good place, but ruined by the horrible service. The only reason for us to visit the branch in Mayfair is because it's the nearest from our hotel. Otherwise, I would rather visit other branches than this one who treats their customers very unfairly, especially if you're on a different skin colour - this is purely by observation.

Likes: Fresh lobster, good portion
Dislikes: Service that cannot sustain without throwing sarcastic remarks to their customers. They take a super long time to attend to you, both wait staff and manager have the same bloody attitude.

Hong Kong HotPot 香港热锅

Sort of the one and only good hotpot in Bangsar area. On weekdays, grab a small discount if you book through from Offpeak. It's advisable to book ahead as it's packed every night. 

What we would usually have - thee pork bone and tomato broth. Choose whatever ingredients you prefer - it's quite similar to what you get in hk (lots of innards but nah, we chose to go a little healthier). 

PS: For those who loves karaoke and hot pot, they have private rooms equipped with it! Well I never fancy doing both together but I thought it's quite unique...

Likes: Fresh broth, lots of great varieties for steam boat (sliced pork, beef, meat balls of all kinds, plenty of vegetable selections). The most important that they aced is the freshness of the food - I believe it's due to the high turnover rate so food is actually very fresh here.
Dislikes: The slack side is they have great sauces but not available every time. When they are busy they won't prepare fried garlic for customers (what kind of logic is that...). And the be honest their service is not the best despite charging high prices for their food. They tend to hurry you to finish up your food because there are customers waiting. I couldn't be bothered because they should plan their reservations well and not shoo-ing your customers off... Your customers are entitled to enjoy their food, as this is not a mamak stall... It's a love hate thing for this place - I love it but their service makes me think twice.

Caviar House Oyster Bar

Passed by these food stalls in Harrods and never tried them before because it's so much more expensive than what you can get in Borough Market? Of course, it's Harrods.

6 fresh rocks for £22 and not inclusive of service charge yet. You probably paid half at Borough Market. But why have oysters in Harrods? You get proper bar seats, you get a nice plate of rocks served on ice, you get lemon, shallots and vinegar, someone to serve and interact with you.

Most importantly, the oysters are fresh as recommended by the staff.

In contrary, you only get oysters at Borough Market and that is about it. Caviar House is a lot more expensive than most places out there, but it's very comfortable.

Likes: Fresh oysters, comfortable seats, good service
Dislikes: A little more expensive than most places out there, but look on the brighter side, it's all worth it. But I guess this a dislike factor for most people out there who wants a cheaper option.

Pan Chai

I have always wanted to dine in these booths at Harrods. These otoro are calling out for my name...

Otoro Sushi (£9.50 each)

Very fresh, fatty tuna that MELTS in the mouth. For such a buttery quality, it doesn't come cheap too.

Harrod's Specials (£25.80each)

Fresh snow crab, avocado, spicy mayo, seared scallops topped with caviar and spring onions.

I thought the ingredients used were not particular interesting - the snow crab was chopped so small you're not even sure if those are snow crab or not. Nevertheless, the combination of everything makes it taste good. The spicy mayo, is not spicy at all, just a hint of it.

Dining here is actually very expensive, but the food is good. 

Likes: Fresh fish, otoro is very good
Dislikes: Service is not the best despite charging for it. Food prices are relatively higher than most sushi shops out there, limited seats

Koya Bar こやバー

A little update on Koya - this is my favourite Japanese udon place and I would usually pay a visit everytime I'm in London. This time around, I did not order my usual hot pork broth - I wanted to order the cold udon with cold broth, but I ordered the wrong item. 

Cold udon, hot broth was what I have accidentally ordered. This is for those who doesn't like their noodle in the hot broth. After trying so many versions, I have to say this is my least favourite.

First time having the tempura udon. I would rather have the tempura at the side - the tempura batter was a major surprise. Never expected that it would be so good! It's very light, fluffy and every bite is crunchy with the exception of  the part where it's already soaked in the broth.

I also got a bit confused with their onsen egg - I recalled it used to come with shell and we have to break it ourselves. Now it comes in a bowl. However, the party next to us got the ones in shell. I am so confused... Did I order the wrong item? Nevertheless, it's pretty much the same thing.

Likes: Best udon in London!
Dislikes: Come here by 12pm and there's already a long queue. Service is not very good - the lady who manages the queue can be a pain.

Hawksmoor

Spice-roasted cauliflower (£8.75)

Yogurt, toasted almond and raisins. One of their popular item to start off, unfortunately ours came a little cold. I thought it would be nicer to have it lukewarm.

Grilled Bone Marrow (£4.50)

Certainly too much for two pax - the bone marrow is massive!

Sunday Roast (£21)

Duck fat roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, greens, lashing of bone marrow and onion gravy. Very large portion, and the duck fat potatoes is something. I just did not like the main item - the beef which had a little too gamey for my likings. Having it with the onion gravy did not improve the weird taste either.


Likes: Service, ambience, crowd
Dislikes: Food was really average, will not return for Sunday Roast. If I had to I would order something else instead.

Burro e Salvia

Burata x Parma Ham x Pumpkin (£10)

The antipasta changes from time to time. But whatever it is, have their burata... It's freshly made in store, very refreshing! Have it together with the thinly sliced ham and pumpkin where it neutralises the taste. Expect it to be salty, sweet and creamy.

Agnolotti Cavour (£12)

We ordered only 1 portion to share. They were so kind to divide it into two portions without having us to request.

This is their signature pasta filled with beef, pork and spinach. Cooked with butter and sage - must have it hot for the perfect al dente. Once it becomes cold it's a little too firm.

You can also purchase some of their fresh pastas back home. They prepare everything in their store and you know it's authentic as the joint is managed by Italians.


Likes: The idea of showing customers how fresh their pastas are. Literally freshly made right in front of you!
Dislikes: Very limited tables if you were to dine in - so do make a reservation otherwise you may not get a seat.

Thim Kee Seafood

Part 2 Thim Kee, affordable tai chow for neighbourhood crowd. For the unpretentious! We usually pay RM20-RM25 per pax, which is very reasonable! For such price, the quality is pretty decent overall, nothing fantastic but it's great for lazy people who feel like having simple homecooked food.
