Chinatown Singapore

Just some random shop at Chinatown foodcourt which serves Katong Laksa. It was definitely better than what I had in Katong despite serving with lots of processed food, but I guess it was the broth and noodle that I enjoyed.

Some random prawn noodle shop about 2 stalls away where there was a queue. I don't like prawn noodles but I was actually eyeing on the pork tail!

Breakfast at Chinatown is an option if your hotel doesn't serve breakfast. In fact, it's more fun to dine here than having hotel's really basic spread, even Sheraton SG did not serve food up to my expectations.

Mojito Bar & Lounge

Visited a few bars for pho cocktail and found this to be my favourite. The pho mojito is the only reason I would visit.

They practically use all types of herbs to craft a bowl of pho - so this is a bowl of pho without meat or salt. It was one of the closest to pho taste and it wasn't too sweet either.

You'll go through a whole "fire show" before getting your drink. Enjoy!

Ne Cocktail Bar

Sorry I've became lazy. Here are some pictures from Ne cocktail Bar. Pho cocktail is a good start if you can't decide what to drink. Tad bit sweet even though I requested for less sugar.

Chilli Negroni. Regretted for ordering this - do not underestimate Vietnamese chilli, this cocktail was actually too spicy for consumption...

Mitzo Restaurant & Bar

BBQ Pork (SGD18)

Their signature char siew.... Which is coated by a layer of sugar. So much sugar...

 Steamed Dumplings (SGD26)

The steamed dumplings looks really tired... Barely any broth in the xiao long bao. Not sure what dimsum place is this that serves lousy dimsum...

Truffled Duck (SGD38)

But to be fair, their truffle duck saved the lunch - love the crispy skin duck with a light hint of truffle!

I didn't think the place was fantastic - it was all about marketing. It's supposed to be a modern Chinese eatery, serves decen and affordable food in the hotel. Make up your mind - are you trying to focus on food quality, or the bar or hotel class? It's like a mixture of everything and did not do well. Just a little confused.

Likes: Truffle duck saved the day
Dislikes: Dimsum place but dimsum isn't good. Signature charsiew which is popular but, coated with so much sugar? Service is also not on par for a hotel restaurant.

Lau Pa Sat

Lau Pa Sat is the last place I would go to for food... Came here only because it was nearby, otherwise I wouldn't have wasted my calories on bad food. The Bak Chor Mee I had was terrible, not cheap and stinge on every little thing. 

If there's such thing as minced liver, that is it - so tiny I had to dig through the entire bowl..

Not to mention, the Char Kuey Teow is sweet?!?!?!? I'm confused. Omg why would anyone eat in LPS.

Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle

What is it like to queue almost 2 hours for this so-called one Michelin star Bak Chor Mee?!

It's quite straight to the point - dry or soup, SGD 6/8/10 based on size. Since I am already queueing for 2 hours might as well go for SGD10, large.

But we opted for medium SGD8 for the soup version as I was more keen on the dry one.

Sharing table is a norm, it's just a typical coffeeshop and it's so HOT!

How to get your food fast: Go by 7-7.15am, get your number and come back by 9 - 9.15am. They open sharp at 9.30am and by then whether you have a number or not there is a crazy long queue. I don't understand the numbering system as those with number has to stand and queue too. Also, not sure if it is in numerical order.


Likes: It is indeed a very good bowl of Bak Chor Mee
Dislikes: The queuing system is messy and it's basically a system to create queues to make it look long, and they don't appear to look like they will improve anytime since it looks like a pastime hobby thing for them so... Just queue then

Halong Bay Tour

Some one day tour we booked at Hanoi. This is the tour that I've regretted a lot - going to Halong Bay without staying is like a touch and go thing. There were a lot of activities which were not included for one day tours. Even the kayaking session was a scam - the tide was already too high by the time we arrived so we did not get to see the main cave. Such a waste of time...

Here's what to expect if you land on a one day tour you've booked in Hanoi.

Some local eats which looks absolutely unappetising, but it was surprising good simply because the food were served hot. You get a whole seafood spread with some vegetables and poultry dishes too. I guess to the locals, this is considered as a very luxury treat already. Contented with the food provided, and possibly the only thing that I've enjoyed throughout the whole tour. 

We booked the 2nd level tour (not the most expensive one), which they called it luxury. Don't know what is the difference but I doubt there is any "luxury" in it - so much time wasted to pick passengers, change buses and get people settled down. The actual time spent in the bus is around 4-5 hours one way. So the actual tour time is 3-4 hours tops? 

At the end of the tour while we were heading towards the jetty, local Vietnamese wine.

These were most of the views. Not the famous one where you have to climb 400++ steps to get all the way up there to snap the nicest photo of Halong Bay. It was not included for I don't know what reasons.. Too bad. So avoid these one day tours at all costs... You don't get to see/experience the true beauty of Halong Bay.

Pizza 4P's

Not the most captivating entrance.. But the cafe behind this door is extremely comfy!

Open kitchen concept where it's fun that you can see, but not quite fun if someone decides to spread virus! *ahhh-choo*

Two flavours pizza + extra burrata cheese (VND320k)

You can choose your pizza flavours and the size of your burrata. We went all in and got the largest piece!!

Likes: Good food, anything with cheese is good. I would definitely return for their pizzas! The burrata is worth adding too!
Dislikes: Not very attentive service, force sell Acqua Panna - we ordered warm water but they served paid water which is very unethical. Don't bother about the caprese too - it wasn't juicy. If you love the ones you had at Italy, this somehow differ quite a bit and it just did not appeal.
Reservations: Yes, otherwise you may not get a table

Stoked

Amuse bouche - guess I'm not very appreciative, it's just crisps and really not much difference from grabbing a pack off the rack before heading to the payment counter. I'm not saying this is bad, it just did not appeal. It's just crisps.

Ibericopork with grilled asparagus, gorgonzola and walnut

Chicken liver parfait with grilled brioche, pear and cherries

Kyushu wagyu rump - corn and rice fed (Marble score 10+)_

Meringue and lemon tart curd. 

To avoid the Valentines crowd, we decided to pop by slightly earlier.  To our disappointment, the head chef was not around. The purpose of visiting is to have him supervising at least.. Oh well, our luck wasn't that great then.

Likes: The iberico pork was alright, dessert was definitely refreshing. Rump was okay - rump being rump, definitely a lot more tender than the usual rump but I think I like meat that melts in the mouth more. No more rumps for me please.
Dislikes: The chicken liver pate tasted a little funny, I guess after having Dinner's Meat Fruit, no liver parfait is the same anymore...

Quinary

A little throwback to my favourite bar in Hong Kong. The signature drink!

We were there in a large group so I got to try many cocktails for the night but this was the most memorable - cocktail of the month! It tastes a lot like long island without ice but served in a tiny glass so it is extremely dangerous! It's a great casual place to hangout, a small place with limited tables so I wouldn't recommend a large group visit. Better off dating someone at sit at the bar instead :)

PS: If you are contemplating between The Old Man & Quinary - Forget about The Old Man. Customers aren't treated with respect in the other bar, despite how good the drinks are... It's a turn off.

Likes: Simple with limited funny decorations on the cocktail as they focus more on the drink quality. Very friendly staffs as well
Dislikes: Nothing! - this is an amazing place to be for drinks! (Better than the overly busy Stockton!)
